The Wind Beneath their Wings
(A taecher's perspective on working with children)
God created every individual in His own image and likeness and yet each one of us are unique in our behavior & mannerisms.
Beauty, intelligence, poise, success; all these are defined by man, but for the Master we all hold equal importance. Children
are by far the most resilient of us all. Once their queries find suitable answers, acceptance comes naturally to them. They
seem to understand each others likes & dislikes instinctively. The main role of a teacher is to draw out the child's confidence,
playing on his strengths and stubbly finding a way around his/her weaknesses. In our culture we are so used to finding the
negatives like; this one is naughty, that one can never finish his work on time, she never knows her tables or this one is
unbearable, instead of she has such a wonderful smile, he is so alert or this one is so perceptive. If we as teachers could
only set aside our' holier than thou' attitudes with respect to our children we would imbibe so much more from their unique
perspective of life. Even the eagle, that soars on high, needs
the right air current to make it glide majestically over the rest of creation, so do our children. Let us as teachers part
the cloud of despair with a shower of love & care that will cause all our students to display their inner beauty &
dance like the peacocks - and let us prove to be the wind beneath their wings.
